Velluto Mastino Kennel started with hours of research and many miles of visiting established breeders in Australia. With the breed still relatively new in this country we decided to take a serious look at what was available before venturing into a purchase.
Our first female came from the well known Bellamico Kennels. Her mother was a large impressive female with great character and type. Although the sire was not well known, his lineage suggested that something special would be within the pups born. We chose our puppy and called her LIRA (of course, the currency of the Mother Country - she wasn't cheap!). Lira had many wins in her showing and made us proud to call her our own. Within only a few months we were ready for another addition, this time we wanted a male with a view to breeding our own mastino. We were temporarily living in New South Wales at this time and got to know the breeders in this state. Luckily we hit it off well with Magnufi Mastino Kennels and secured a beautiful black male named Alessandro. Although only lightly shown, he has made us proud, especially winning Best Male at the 2003 NSW Neapolitan Mastiff Speciality Show. Less than a year after bringing Sandro home we were offered another puppy from Magnufi, and our relationship continues today. With the friendship and support of Lorene Cantarella and many others,we continue to study this breed in attempts to truely understand it. There are so many who are losing the essence of the Neapolitan Mastiff through poor breeding practices, and we hope that we can create mastini that would reflect well to the Mother Country. We are members of the Neapolitan Club of NSW, the only official club for the Mastino in Australia.
We are situated on the northern outskirts of Brisbane and are more than happy to answer any breed questions and show off our beautiful mastini with prior arrangement.
